![]() Steve Morrow began his poker management career in 1989 at the Four Queens in Las Vegas. Under the guidance of Gene Trimble, whose honesty and sense of fairness raised the standard, Morrow learned the business of poker and the art of tournament coordination. After the Four Queens closed their poker room in 1993, Morrow honed his skills working closely for five years with industry giants Jack McClelland and Jim Albrecht. During his 17 year career in poker, Morrow directed the largest poker tournaments in the world, including:
Morrow also served as assistant director of many major tournaments, including:
Proven LeadershipWhen hired early in '95 to his first solo Directing job, the Queen's Summer Classic, Morrow announced that he would impose rules of conduct with penalties for abuse of dealers or players. Up to that point, no rules of conduct or penalties existed on the major poker tournament circuit, nor were any seriously contemplated. In response, at the World Series of Poker® several weeks later, McClelland and Albrecht introduced the abuse penalty system still in wide use today. At the '97 Queen's Classic, Morrow introduced one of the earliest flattened payout structures, lowering the standard 40% top prize to 30% / 27.5% and spreading the prize money to more players. At the Rio Carnivale of Poker®, Morrow twice directed a world record $500 buy-in tournament and in '99 directed the first $ Million tournament ever held outside the World Series of Poker®. In early 2002, PokerStars.com, a recent start-up, contracted Morrow to manage their online poker room. In 19 months under his guidance PokerStars grew to the #2 position in the industry. Steve Morrow remains the first and only person to have directed the largest land-based tournament (World Series of Poker®) and the largest online tournament (World Championship of Online Poker®). Steve Morrow has an unblemished reputation for honesty and integrity, and maintains a large and loyal following in the offline and online poker communities. Steve Morrow's past clients include PokerStars.com, CryptoLogic, and World Gaming PLC. Steve has consulted with TV show writer Mike Rabb for an episode of Dr Vegas, and with North Dakota Representative James Kasper on his proposed legislation to license and regulate online poker in that state. Steve Morrow was a featured speaker at the 2005 Canadian Gaming Conference in Niagara Falls. After Hurricane Katrina, Steve Morrow put his career on hold to care for his wife's elderly parents, whose home in St. Bernard Parish was destroyed by a hurricane for the second time. He is now ready to resume his career and is anxious to help another start-up scale the mountain in front of them. * Disclaimer - All information at this site is for news and entertainment purposes only.
